PIONEERING WORM FARMING · NORTHUMBERLAND

An old farm.
A pioneering new chapter.

We’re Perky Worms: a working Northumberland worm farm with a pioneering outlook. We produce vermicast for agriculture, commercial growers and gardeners, bringing the work of worms into growing systems at a larger scale.

THE MOUSEN STORY

An old farm.
A new lease of life.

Mousen had been out of use for more than 30 years. A neglected farm in Northumberland, waiting for its next chapter.

Our background is in engineering. We’re used to looking at how things work, solving practical problems and finding a way forward. At Mousen, we’re putting that experience into bringing a farm back to life.

That new chapter is Perky Worms. We’re developing a working worm farm, producing vermicast for agriculture, commercial growers and gardens. It brings together two things that matter to us: practical ingenuity and a belief that this place can have a productive future.

Built by people who like to work things out.

Engineering gives us a way of approaching the challenge. Worm farming gives us plenty to learn. We’re applying our experience to the practicalities of production at scale, while learning from the living process at the centre of it all.

We’re a small business, and this is an ongoing story. There is work to do, questions to answer and more to discover. Every order helps support the next chapter of a Northumberland farm that is finding its purpose again.

OUR HOME

Made in Northumberland

Our farm is where the work begins: caring for worms, producing vermicast and preparing products for growing spaces big and small. Behind every order is a small business with a hands-on interest in how things grow.

OUR APPROACH

Pioneering through practical work

Scaling worm farming takes observation, practical engineering and a willingness to try new approaches. Our focus is on developing how we rear worms, handle material and produce vermicast for real agricultural use.

A little look beneath the surface

Vermicast starts with a living process. Worms and microorganisms work on organic material, gradually turning it into a soil amendment that farmers, commercial growers and gardeners can use alongside their existing soil or compost.

01 · THE WORMS

Small workers, important work

The worms are at the heart of our farm. Understanding their environment and the organic material they process is where our interest in vermicast begins.

02 · THE VERMICAST

Goodness worth understanding

The finished material is more than a bag of brown crumbs. Its properties depend on how it is produced, which is why we want to keep learning about the process.

03 · FARMS, FIELDS & GARDENS

From our farm to your growing system

We supply vermicast to agriculture as well as smaller growing spaces. Our range connects bulk agricultural supply with plain vermicast and five Perky blends for home growers.

FOR AGRICULTURE & COMMERCIAL GROWING

A farm behind every bag.
Ambition beyond the garden.

We sell to agriculture. That shapes how we think about production, handling and the practicalities of using vermicast at scale. Whether you manage farmland, grow commercially or are exploring a trial, talk to us about your crop, soil, quantities and delivery requirements.

Pioneering means continuing to learn.

Our ambition is to help more people understand vermicast and explore its possibilities. We’re building that story through practical work, questions and a willingness to keep improving. We’ll distinguish what research tells us from what we observe on our own farm.
