THE PERKY WORMS FARM JOURNAL
From the farm.
For the curious.
The story of bringing Mousen back to life, the thinking behind our worm farm and the questions that keep us learning.

A closer look at the worms at the heart of the process.
01 · OUR STORY
Thirty years quiet.
A new purpose taking shape.
Mousen had been out of use for more than 30 years. A neglected Northumberland farm, with the possibility of a different future.
Our background is in engineering. We look at a problem, work out what is needed and get practical. Bringing Mousen back into use draws on that same instinct, with something very different at the centre: worms.
Perky Worms is the new chapter. We’re building a working worm farm supplying vermicast to agriculture, commercial growers and gardens. We’re a small business with a hands-on approach, learning as we go.
Every order is part of that story. It supports a Northumberland farm finding its purpose again.
02 · HOW WE THINK
Engineering meets a living process.
Working at farm scale raises practical questions: how do we care for the worms, handle the material and prepare products for growing spaces of very different sizes?
Our engineering experience helps us approach those questions systematically. But a living process also asks us to observe, adapt and keep learning. Pioneering, for us, means doing the practical work and remaining curious about what could be better.
That is why our range reaches from garden packs to 500kg bags of vermicast and 1,000-litre IBCs of worm tea. The scale changes; the interest in the material remains.
03 · KEEPING THE QUESTIONS OPEN
What does a useful growing trial tell us?
A good comparison starts with a clear question. What was grown, which product was used, how much was applied and what changed?
For meaningful observations, record dates, the growing medium, weather or watering, and the normal feeding programme. Keep an untreated comparison where practical and take photographs from the same position. One attractive plant photograph alone cannot tell the whole story.
Published research helps explain why vermicast interests growers. A trial with a particular Perky Worms product answers a different question. We keep that distinction clear on our science page.
